Pediatric Dental Fillings In Lake Worth
When your child has a cavity, it can compromise their overall oral health and leave them with a lingering toothache. Dental fillings provide a quick, straightforward, and cost-effective way to get your child’s dental health back on track.
Why should my child get a dental filling?
Fillings are one of the fastest, simplest, and most affordable ways to treat cavities in kids. Cavities can cause pain, discomfort, and even lead to infection or tooth loss, so they’re a big deal—even in baby teeth. These teeth are crucial for guiding the development of adult teeth, ensuring they come in correctly. A dental filling can help keep your child’s tooth healthy and functional as they grow.

The Benefits of Dental Fillings For Kids
Eliminate Pain & Discomfort
Small cavities can cause tooth sensitivity and tenderness to heat, cold, and the pressure of chewing. And bigger cavities could even cause a serious toothache. With a filling, you can eliminate your child’s pain and discomfort.
Prevent Tooth Loss
Cavities can worsen if left untreated, potentially leading to infections that may affect the health of the tooth. In some cases, this could result in the need for extraction. However, with prompt treatment like a filling, we can prevent further damage and keep your child's baby or adult teeth healthy and intact.
Affordable Treatment
Pediatric dental fillings are simple and affordable, and are covered by dental insurance. This makes them a budget-friendly option. This is especially true compared to more invasive treatments like root canals, which may be needed if your child doesn’t get a filling to treat their cavity.
The Dental Filling Treatment Process
Initial Consultation
First, Dr. Tover will examine your child's mouth for signs of cavities. This may take place at a new patient appointment, routine six-month visit, or whenever you bring your child into our office and suspect they have a cavity. If your child is complaining of pain, discomfort, or tenderness in one of their teeth, consider bringing them in for a checkup.
Tooth Preparation
After Dr. Tover confirms the cavity, we’ll schedule a treatment visit. At the appointment, Dr. Tover will gently and carefully remove the affected area of the tooth. This process is designed to be as comfortable as possible, helping restore the tooth's health and strength.
Filling Placement
Once the cavity is removed, Dr. Tover will restore the tooth with a tooth-colored material called composite resin. After shaping it to fit the tooth, Dr. Tover will make sure everything feels right before your child is all set to go home.

Your child may report feelings of sensitivity or discomfort when chewing, eating hot or cold foods, or eating very sugary foods. This is a common sign of a cavity. More advanced decay may result in intermittent toothaches and pain.
You may also be able to recognize visual indicators of tooth decay. If you look inside your child’s mouth and see a dark brown or black stain on their tooth, or you think that you can see visible pits or holes in your child’s tooth, it may be a cavity or tooth decay. If you suspect that your child has a cavity, contact your child’s dentist right away for an oral exam.
Cavities aren’t always deep enough to cause pain or discomfort, but this doesn’t mean that they can be ignored. Over time, cavities will always become more serious, and could even result in an infected tooth if they are not treated. We highly recommend contacting our office about treatment with a filling or SDF (silver diamine fluoride) if you suspect your child has a cavity, even if they aren’t feeling any discomfort or pain.
No, dental fillings are generally not painful. Once the filling is placed, your child will no longer experience the discomfort caused by the cavity, allowing them to smile and enjoy their favorite foods again. The process is minimally invasive, and Dr. Tover ensures that your child stays comfortable throughout the procedure.
Fillings are used to restore a tooth after decay. Dr. Tover will carefully remove the unhealthy enamel and replace it with a filling, stopping the cavity from progressing. This helps protect your child’s tooth, keeping their smile healthy and bright.
Yes. Dental fillings for kids are usually covered in some way by most insurance policies, though you may be subject to a deductible or yearly maximum coverage for your child, depending on your insurance plan. As always, we recommend contacting your insurer directly if you have any questions about your child’s coverage and want to make sure that their fillings will be covered.
